Lately, there is a lot of talk about US President Donald Trump and his new posts. Recently, Trump posted a chart on ‘Truth Social’. This chart shows a list of countries and how many immigrant families from there are taking welfare or help from the US government. Many people are shocked to see the names on this list.

The list includes around 120 countries. Names like Pakistan, Bhutan, China, Bangladesh, and Nepal are there. But the most interesting thing is that India is not on this list. This list is called ‘Immigrants Welfare Recipient Rates by Country of Origin’. It shows which countries’ people are getting more help in America.

What the data says about other countries

In the chart shared by Trump, we can see some big numbers. For example, Bangladesh is high on the list. About 54.8 percent of families coming from Bangladesh get welfare help in the US. Other countries are also there like:

  • Pakistan: 40.2 percent families get help.
  • Nepal: 34.8 percent.
  • China: 32.9 percent.
  • Ukraine: 42.7 percent.
  • Israel/Palestine: 25.9 percent.

But India’s name is missing because Indians in America are doing very well on their own.

Why India is not on the list?

The reason India is not there is simple. Indian-Americans have the highest income among all groups in the US. They don’t need government welfare. According to Pew Research Center, Indians are the second largest Asian group in America. They make up about 21 percent of the total Asian population there.

If we look at the money, in 2023, the average income of an Indian immigrant family was 151,200 US dollars. This is much higher than the average of all Asians, which was 105,600 dollars. Even the personal income of Indians (85,300 dollars) is far ahead of others. This is why you don’t see India in the welfare list.

Trump’s comment on PM Modi and Russian Oil

While talking about trade, President Trump also mentioned PM Narendra Modi. He said that Modi knew he was not happy with India buying oil from Russia. Trump was talking to reporters on ‘Air Force One’.

Trump said, “Modi is a very good man and has a big heart.” He also said that Modi knew Trump was unhappy and it was important for Modi to make him happy. Trump warned that America can increase tariffs on India anytime. He said if they increase taxes, it will be very bad for India.

The Pressure of Tariffs

US Senator Lindsey Graham was also there. He said that because of Trump’s threat of tariffs, India is now buying much less oil from Russia. There is a proposal to put 500 percent tariff on countries that buy Russian oil. This is being done to put pressure on Putin to stop the war.

Right now, the US has already put a 25 percent tariff on India for buying Russian oil. Trump thinks these sanctions are hurting Russia a lot.
